ETF Talk Forum FAQ

Here you can find answers to questions about how the board works. Use the links or search box below to find your way around.

How does this work?

What we have done is setup a system so the ad revenue can be shared between active members of this forum.

This forum displays one advertisement in the upper right area as well as inline ads shown below the 1st post of each thread and spread throughout the threads.

The ads displayed within the posts are enabled for the revenue sharing. All revenue created from ads that follow a post will be paid to the author of that post, if they have an adsense account and have signed up here.

We use Google AdSense to automatically serve relevant ads for the content on the page. Google pays AdSense publishers on a per click basis as well as per impression.

If a user has an AdSense account, they have the ability to credit their account with the ads served on threads they start or participate in.

If you have any questions about it, please visit this thread.

Go to www.google.com/adsense to get your Adsense account started...

Why are you doing this?

A forum is nothing without the member. So why not let them make a little money on posts they create and participate in?

It will encourage positive and useful discussion. Interesting threads and posts are read and engaged more than the not so interesting.

What are the restrictions?

  • You must have an AdSense account through Google.

  • You must have at least 50 total posts within the forum to participate (once you reach that level, the ads displayed from that point forward are retroactively applied to all the threads you started or participated in).

  • Your AdSense client ID will be used in the ads that follow your posts.

  • Is this allowed by Google?

Yes. If a website is in compliance with the program policies (http://www.google.com/adsense/policies ) and the each publisher has given you permission to display their ads on your site, you may place your ad code along with the other publisher's ad code on the same page. You will, however, need to contact the other publishers in order to obtain permission to display their ads on your website. Please keep in mind that a maximum of three regular ad units and one link unit may be placed on one web page. In addition, please be aware that every publisher is responsible for the content of a website on which their ad code is placed. If a website is found in violation of our program policies, we will notify any publisher(s) whose ad code is on the website, and ask you to remove the Google code from that page.

How do I set it up?

You will need to go to the Edit Profile area of your user control panel. Within there, you will find an option to enter your AdSense client ID (this starts with pub- and is within the HTML Google generates for you in your account). You can optionally specify a Channel if you wish as well.

Once you have a Google AdSense client ID on your account and you have made more than 50 posts to the forum, any revenue generated from an ad under your posts will be credited to your AdSense account.

I'm worried about you having my AdSense Client ID

The only info we need for it is info that is publicly available if you look at the source of any page that has your AdSense ads.

If you are still worried about it then the best thing to do is not participate.

How long will you be doing this?

While I can't guarantee it will run forever, there are no plans to stop it at any point.

But we do retain the right to halt the program or make adjustments to it as necessary if it's not working out in it's current form for whatever reason.

What happens if I click on my own ads?

DO NOT click on your own ads or encourage others to do so. Your ads are the ones directly following your posts. If you do click on your own ads, your Adsense account will be cancelled by Google.

If you do accidentally click on your ad you should contact Google immediately and explain the situation.

Select this option if you would like your search to look in the text of FAQ items as well as their titles.

Select an option here to specify how you would like your search query to be treated. 'Any words' will return the most numerous but possibly least relevant results, while 'Complete phrase' will return only results that contain exactly what you are searching for.
