    Default Another newbee!

I've held etf's since December of 2005. Some have been great and others not so great . I changed the way I've invested, mainly buy and hold now.
I started with EEM, EPP, EWJ, FXI, ILF, VB, VNQ, IJH, VTI, and VTV. A year ago I acquired EFA and IGE.
VB, EWJ, VNQ and VTV haven't performed very well and am thinking of KOL, ECH, EPU and NORW. Any thoughts?
I'm glad I found the site!!

Welcome Bruce! Thanks for joining us!

I don't trade any of those although I am familiar with EFA. Watch out for a breakout in the dollar hurting that one. As you probably know, the dollar's action is almost 100% inversely impacting that fund. That is, if the dollar is up 0.25%, that fund will likely be down 0.25% from where the EAFE closed.

    Dollar up: +0.25%
    EAFE: -0.35%
    EFA: -0.60%

    Dollar down: -0.25%
    EAFE: -0.35%
    EFA: -0.10%

Welcome, Bruce! I have owned a couple of the ETFs you mention (EEM, VNQ, IJH) and was very happy with EEM. It hit a patch of volatility and I sold it, but probably sold too early.

You're smart to key in on Vanguard funds. It seems to me that their expenses are always the lowest in their fund group.

    Again, welcome!

Thanks for the explanation. Although I've invested in etf's for 5 years I don't know much about the charts, moving avgs etc.

    Thanks again

That's all I look at. I think the entire story of a stock / ETF / index is in the chart.

Where can I find charting 101? You know, just basics on charts.
